Derby County defender Claude Davis will be assessed over the next few days after he suffered a hamstring strain.

Davis lasted 62 minutes of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Espanyol before picking up the injury. The £3million signing from Sheffield United missed the recent pre-season games against Nottingham Forest and Crewe due to a virus.

Derby boss Billy Davies admits that he will be monitoring the injury ahead of the Premiership opener next weekend:.

“We will have to be very careful with him in next week’s training,” Billy Davies told the Rams’ website.

“We will see how it settles down and monitor it over the next three or four days. Hopefully we can have him right.”
