Davies faces striker fight
Derby County face a battle if they want to sign Kansas City Wizards striker Eddie Johnson.
The United States international is currently the joint top scorer in Major League Soccer and has scored 11 goals in 27 games for is country.
Billy Davies has already brought in Robert Earnshaw from Norwich City for £3.5million, but is said to be keen on bringing Johnson to the Premiership.
Wizards technical director Peter Vermes admitted that clubs have made bids for their star player, but they will do all in their power to keep him at the club.
“Certain clubs have made bids on Eddie in this transfer window and I’m sure we’ll hear many more,” Vermes told the Kansas City Star.
“As far as we’re concerned, Eddie’s with us. We’re excited to have him back.
“Nothing has materialised that would lead to Eddie leaving us. We want him here.
“He’s having a lot of success under this new management, and we want that to continue.”
